Peter's
Preface
A Colorful Character
Think about all the scripture stories you’ve
heard or read. Now, think about who are the most “colorful
characters” from those stories. By ‘colorful characters’ I mean
individuals who are seen in many different situations, ones that
show strength, boldness, weakness, and even ones that are down right
embarrassing.
Am I one of the people you thought of? I
walked on water (and got wet). I boldly followed Jesus (and
shamefully denied him). I was one of Jesus’ top students (and often
missed his point completely). I was the one who wanted to build
shelters for Moses and Elijah at Jesus’ Transfiguration. And I was
the one whom Jesus named ‘Rock’. I hid behind locked doors after
Jesus’ crucifixion and I courageously preached the gospel message to
the Sanhedrin. Yes, fortunately or not, I am known as a “colorful
character”. No one has ever complained that the story of my life is
bland.
